A seven acre semi-tropical island set in the sparkling waters of St Joseph Bay, this lush retreat may feel a thousand miles away, but it’s just a 10 minute ride from the mainland – in U.S. waters!

The Black’s Island resort-style community was thoughtfully designed to give you every comfort imaginable, while keeping the natural island beach setting. Every effort was made to work around lush vegetation and palm trees – no easy feat with hundreds of palm trees on the island, dating back more than 300 years. The development actually blends in with nature, offering a refreshing and welcome change from the more common beach resort/rental experience.
Upon your arrival, you’ll follow the boardwalk over a white sand beach to be greeted at the Big Game Club. Inspired by Old English style clubhouses, the Big Game Club is the social hub of the island with details reminiscent of a 17th century sailing vessel, but also where you’ll find your modern-day conveniences like WiFi and a fitness center. Custom wood and metal work set the theme, with an enormous front porch perfect for watching the sunset in the cool gulf breeze, and a 45 foot red oak spiral staircase leading down to the patio area below and up to the crow’s nest observatory above for amazing views of the island and the gulf. You’ll find the pool and hot tub just to the south of the clubhouse, and the watersports equipment pavilion to the northwest.

From Captain Black’s Big Game Club, you’ll stroll out onto a 1,200-foot cypress boardwalk that wanders through the palm trees to connect 26 water-front luxury bungalows. These fully equipped private homes feature island style decor, and each has its own spectacular sunset AND sunrise view. The bungalows are tastefully designed, engineered for comfort, and impressively well-appointed with amenities such as granite and stainless steel kitchens, slate and wood floors, walk-in cedar closets, decks – and stunning views from every room!
Each bungalow is a completely private waterfront home that sleeps six, with 2-3 bedrooms, two full baths, modern full kitchen, and laundry room with washer & dryer. Single story units are 1250 sq ft and include a bonus sleeping loft, and 2-story units are 1425 sq ft – each fully furnished with a king and 2 queen beds, plus all the linens, dishes, appliances, and utensils you’d find at home. The open, spacious floor plan leaves plenty of room to stretch out and unwind, or relax and enjoy the view from your private balcony. This is your own space.

As you would expect on an island, the water activities within the bay’s protected waters seem endless; Kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, fishing, scalloping, and if that’s not enough, St. Joseph Bay opens directly on the Gulf of Mexico with opportunities for fantastic offshore fishing. Our guests have access to island kayaks,paddle boards and more. Regular ferry service to and from the mainland is always available for local exploring and fun, as well. Also scattered around the island you’ll find several areas where you can do… absolutely nothing. Small ‘comfort oasis’ spots: a swing, a chair, a hammock with shade, or a beach chair and a palm tree in the sand –and plenty of privacy– are yours to settle into at will.
